music, among other things
hello kittens!
here i am, a thursday early afternoon, ready to blog. it's so early in my blogland! but what can i say? i'm in the mood for love (and blogging). so what has me all up in a tizzy? well...i'm looking to share the love of music on this day.
anyone who knows even the slightest bit about my morning routine knows that i watch the today show while i get ready. i watch the important "news hour" from 7-8. i miss all the crap stuff about decorating and food and bad movies that they start doing in the 8-9 hour, and all the unbelievable dribble they have in the 9-10 hour. that's fine with me. the one thing that isn't fine with me, are all the damn commercials they show. a lot of the commercials are for broadway shows. i find this interesting. it's the only time i see commercials for broadway shows. and i watch a lot of tv.
some of the heavily played commercials are the ones for: The Light in the Piazza, Lestat, The Wedding Singer (the musical, Steven Lynch!!), and that really horrible show that i can't remember the name of but flopped. Lately though, i've been seeing a commercial for the Dixie Chicks' new album. now that it's cool to hate the president, Natalie Maines is finally getting the respect (hopefully) that she deserved years ago when she said something about being ashamed that she and the president were both from texas. personally, i didn't see anything wrong with someone exercising their free speech...but you know those republican freakanoids got their panties in a twist. CHILL bros! anyway, back to my point. they've been playing the commercial which features a clip from their song "Not Ready to Make Nice." first - i love the phrase "make nice." second - this song is awesome. and if you know me, you know i can't say that about too much country, because a person can only tolerate so much lamenting on tractors, exwives, and twangs. but i really love this song. i can't help it. the hook got caught in my head via the commercial, then i checked out their myspace and have listened to it online about a bazillion times since then. that was yesterday. geez. i've got it bad.
but the country love doesn't stop there. OH NO my friends. it does not. because i'm also obsessed with the new Avett Brothers album. who are the avett brothers? they're an amazing bluegrass/rock band from North Carolina that my friend Lindsey introduced me to back when we were living together in new york city. it started with their song "love like the movies" and my obsession has since grown ten-fold. i love their album mignonette. if you can, get some of the tracks. i recommend...everything. the gutteral screams and sweet melodies and the banjo! who knew i could love the banjo so much?! surely i didn't.
and as further proof that they're awesome...check out their hotness (although, that is NOT the ideal photograph to showcase how hot you are...boys..)
