i just can't resist...
a sports movie.
i love them. they ALWAYS make me cry, yet feel so happy when it's all over. I just watched the trailer for We Are Marshall and nearly teared up. but maybe i almost cried because Matthew Fox will be on the big screen in all his emotive glory. watch it, you'll know what i'm talking about. oh yeah, and matthew mccon-nameisridiculoustospell is in it too.
but seriously, a sports movie (based on a true story or not) almost always has all the components a good movie should have. like:
- action sequences - during the games, duh
- a hardened character/coach/player who warms up at the end
- comedy - usually insults between the players
- drama - they never get along well at the beginning
- a love interest - even if it's with the sport itself
- resolution - KEY to making everyone who leaves the theatre happy
here for you, in random order, are my favorite* sports movies**...
Field of Dreams
The Mighty Ducks
Miracle
The Rookie
Remember the Titans
and my number one favorite sports movie of all time...
Rudy: Jon Favreau, Samwise Gamgee (i mean, Sean Astin) and Vince Vaughn? yep, i'm there.
*i would have included Rookie of the Year, but decided not to. "Funky Buttloving" is still in my daily vocabulary though.
**Angels in the Outfield also gets shut out, simply because it stars Tony Danza. I don't want to see Tony Danza do anything but tap dance, clean, and fight with Angela, Mona or Samantha.
