old school style
guess what i bought this weekend?
A vcr.
that's right. a vcr. i'm not all fancy with the technology. i'm not into the gagets and gizmos flooding the market as of late....oh wait, YES I AM.
the truth? i don't control my cable. i live in someone's house, all my utilities are included in the rent, and i have no utility bills in my name. risky? probably. cheap? definitely.
so, i have basic cable, or what Cablevision refers to as "Family Cable."
i can watch project runway, adult swim, design on a dime, the food network, and my horrible MTV obsessions (aka fresh meat...YAY darrell and aviv!!). plus, the essentials like Lost, Prison Break and Gilmore Girls.
But i can't order DVR. even though that would probably be the greatest thing to ever enter into my life. and i can't oder TiVo. Because you need a phone line. and i can't order that either. plus, i have a cell phone. who needs one more bill?
anyway, i checked my fall tv watching schedule (see below):
and found that i was going to need some sort of recording device
a- some programs i enjoy overlap
b- i would like to have a life
i don't want to have to say to my friends, "nah, sorry...can't hang out tonight...cause you know...VERONICA MARS is on." even though i totally have done that in the past. so, now i'll just set my vcr. it's gonna be fantastico. even if it is a little bit 80's.
at least i didn't buy a BETAMAX. although i did have a hard time finding a vcr that was ONLY a vcr. i already have like 3 dvd players. i didn't need another one.

TiVo doesn't need a phone line - it can use a network connection instead. So if you have broadband, or there is WiFi you can leech, it'd work. :-)
I have to admit, i didn't research tivo more than listening to one friend complain about having to set up a phone line. :-)
but now i'm totally going to look into it!
