grillin and chillin
last night allie and i took advantage of the few hours of nice weather and decided to bust out our new grill (as shown in the picture to the left).
we made chicken cutlets smothered in honey bbq sauce. after grilling, we put them on buns and had awesome bbq chicken sandwiches. allie even shredded her chicken. it was glorious.
grilling always makes me think of my dad, when i was growing up. every summer he would make it his mission to grill about 5 times a week. sometimes we would play catch in the backyard while waiting for something to cook, or he would practice his golf swing, or try to (horribly) teach me how to swing a club. with the exception of when allie and i were tiny tots, it was the only time we would actually play in the backyard. there was nothing back there that was particularly cool...just grass and a weird flag pole (that went unused, for the entire time we lived there) and children are fickle, so most of the time we played in the front yard, where everyone could see that we were having a good time. or, we resorted to playing in other kids' yards, namely those who had swing sets or pools.
with the sale of my parent's house last week, and the upcoming divorce finalization, i'm trying to find happy things to remember, and our summer grilling was definitely happy.
it's good to know at least, that the couple who bought the house have a toddler, and she'll probably come to love the house i called "home" for 23 years.
